Faster healing times, anti inflammatory and pain relief are the main three benefits of cryotherapy.

Faster Healing Time / Speed up Recovery: During cryotherapy your blood vessels on the treated area will narrow which we call vasoconstriction, 1 hour post cryotherapy treatment your blood vessels will start to enlarge to 4x the normal size - this we call vasodilation. Having created a temporary larger blood vessel, we allow much more oxygen and nutrient rich blood to the area, therefore increasing healing and recovery times.

Pain relief: During a cryotherapy treatment, the body slows down the nerve signal transmissions and releases a neurotransmitter that reduces pain sensitivity.

Anti inflammatory: After an injury, inflammation is a common occurrence. It is caused by oedema build-up and an increase in the number of white blood cells in the affected area. Exposure to extremely cold temperatures with cryotherapy triggers anti-inflammatory norepinephrine which reduces swelling and relieves pain.

Cryotherapy blocks the inflammatory response by reducing the number of inflammatory mediators such as inflammatory cytokines. In cases like rheumatoid arthritis, where the synovial membrane is inflamed and joint cartilage and bone are progressively destroyed, the inflammatory process is essentially mediated by the production of cytokines. Since they work as a catalyst of joint destruction - Cryotherapy helps to fight these molecules.
